5 Simple Steps to Planning an Event

July 10 | 2018

When you first decide you want to throw an event or party, it can seem extremely overwhelming. After all, there’s so much to do! Where’s it going to be? Who’s coming? Will there be food? Drinks? There’s so many things to plan and account for that you might be left feeling frustrated and unsure how to get started. Lucky for you, we love hosting events for our customers and have gathered a bit of expertise on the topic after all these years! So, when you’re getting ready to take the plunge and get started, keep these tips in mind for a smooth event planning experience.

There are so many things that go into planning a party or event. The best way to get the process in motion is by brainstorming all of the things that need to get done in preparation for the big day. From big things like booking a venue to little things like setting up table decorations, you’ll want to make sure you account for everything you need to get done.

As you’re brainstorming, you’ll want to make sure you’re documenting everything on your computer, phone, or with an old-fashioned paper and pencil. There are plenty of party planning checklist templates out there to help you get all your tasks organized.

Once you have all your tasks written down and organized on your checklist, you’ll want to sort them out in order of priority. But in order to determine which tasks need to be higher on your list and which ones you can push towards the bottom, you’ll want to keep in mind the timeline of when things need to be done. Big things like booking a venue will have to precede little things like deciding what color the decorations should be.

With your list of tasks all prioritized and ready to go, it’s time to formulate a plan to make them all happen. For each of the tasks on your list, go back and write down who’s responsible for completing each task, and what date it needs to be done by. That way, you’ll have a general timeframe of when everything is going to get done.

You’ve got everything you need to get done written down in an organized manner, you’ve prioritized the order in which each task needs to be completed, and you’ve assigned the responsibility of each task and when it needs to be completed by. Now it’s time to execute! Get your venue booked, send those invitations, and make sure you’ve got your food and drink situation covered.

It’s okay to feel a little overwhelmed when you’re getting ready to start planning your event. But don’t worry, there are plenty of free resources out there to help you learn and figure out what to do. By applying an effective event planning process to your own preparation, you’ll be setting yourself up for a successful event right from the start.
